CarolinaEast Health System announces its new Community Clinic, opening today, August 28, 2025. CarolinaEast Physicians, providing primary and specialty care for all phases of life from offices in four counties, now includes the new CarolinaEast Community Clinic. The clinic was planned and built in collaboration with the Redevelopment Commission and the City of New Bern.
CarolinaEast Community Clinic, located at 729 3rd Avenue in New Bern, will provide primary and walk-in care, while helping patients with chronic health conditions get continuity of care by specialists when needed. The clinic aims to provide ease and accessibility to primary and continuing care for existing patients of CarolinaEast, while also accepting new patients who wish to enter the system.
“This is an exciting time for CarolinaEast and Eastern North Carolina. We are proud to collaborate with our great partners at the City, enabling us to bring this necessary resource to the community.” said Michael Smith, President and CEO of CarolinaEast Health System. “For far too long, the residents of Duffyfield and the surrounding area have lacked access to care where they live. Transportation should not and will no longer be a barrier to healthcare. The CarolinaEast Community Clinic will serve as another milestone in our legacy of providing care to this region for the last 60 years and beyond the next 60.”
The Community Clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00am until 6:00pm, and will see patients via appointment at 252-276-7190 or walk-in as space allows. Insurance will be filed for those with commercial or federal plans, and the uninsured will be given the opportunity to sign up for Medicaid and financial assistance.
“Reducing barriers to good and affordable healthcare has always been a pillar of our redevelopment plan,” said Tabari Wallace, Vice Chair of the Redevelopment Commission of New Bern. “But more than celebrating this accomplishment, we are celebrating the difference this clinic will make for families in the Greater Five Points
community and beyond. This is about health, hope, and opportunity, and we are proud to stand alongside our partners in making it a reality.”
A Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting is planned for Friday September 19 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, with educational information, assistance with MyChart sign-ups and Medicaid applications, as well as food, fun, and remarks by representatives from CarolinaEast and the Redevelopment Commission, as well as Jeffrey Odham, Mayor of New Bern.
“Improved access to healthcare in the Duffyfield and Five Points community was a need identified during the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative plan creation in 2014,” said Mayor Odham. “The implementation started when the New Bern Board of Alderman made a financial commitment towards the project in 2021. ‘Everything came together’ when CarolinaEast stepped up to build and operate the facility. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!”
CarolinaEast Physicians began integrating practices in 2009 and CarolinaEast Community Clinic brings physician practice locations operating as part of the Health System to 22. CarolinaEast also recently announced the integration of CarolinaEast OB/GYN (formerly Eastern Carolina Women’s Center) as of September 1, 2025. Patients or potential patients of any CarolinaEast facility, including the Community Clinic, are encouraged to create a MyChart account for continuity of care.
