The Urology team at CarolinaEast Health System announced they are now offering Aquablation therapy and have completed their 100th treatment. Aquablation therapy treats the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
CarolinaEast is pleased to highlight this advanced, minimally invasive robotic-assisted procedure that uses the power of water to remove obstructive prostate tissue and provide clinically proven, long-lasting BPH symptom relief while preserving sexual function and continence across all shapes and sizes. BPH is a condition in which the prostate gland enlarges, leading to various urinary symptoms. Without timely treatment, BPH can lead to severe health issues such as permanent bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones and incontinence. BPH affects one out of every two males between the ages of 51 and 60.
CarolinaEast Physicians’ Drs. Jeffrey Goodwin, Amanda Ingram, Brian McGillick and Matthew Pierce are thrilled to offer Aquablation therapy as a proven, safe and effective solution.
Dr. Ingram, Urologist, who completed the 100th procedure milestone on September 19, states: “We have observed outstanding outcomes in our patients following Aquablation therapy. This innovative procedure offers significant relief from BPH symptoms and contributes meaningfully to an improved quality of life.”
In October 2024, David Hodges received Aquablation therapy by Dr. Goodwin at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern. He was previously on medication for two years urinating every 20 to 30 minutes due to BPH, affecting both his work and relationships.
“This procedure has been life changing,” said Hodges. “I no longer take medication, I find myself having to remind myself to use the restroom and my
relationship with my wife of 36 years is back to normal. Dr. Goodwin and his staff are amazing and I would recommend him and the procedure to anyone that is dealing with prostate issues. I pray that others have the success that I have had.”
Aquablation therapy is the first and only ultrasound guided, robotic-assisted, heat-free waterjet for the treatment of BPH. The system’s real-time ultrasound imaging provides the surgeon with a multi-dimensional view of the prostate enabling personalized treatment planning tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy. The surgeon can specify which areas of the prostate to remove while preserving the anatomy that controls erectile function, ejaculatory function and continence. Once the treatment plan is mapped by the surgeon, the predictable robotic-assisted execution enables prostate tissue to be removed in a precise, targeted and controlled fashion.
“We are committed to remaining at the forefront of medical technology for our patients in Eastern NC,” added Dr. Goodwin, Urologist. “Aquablation therapy offers a highly effective treatment option, and we are proud to contribute to the advancement of men’s health through its implementation.”
